Karuna's adoption day
Monday we all woke up very early and we talked about how our lives were going to change in just a few hours. We went to the orphanage with Minal who is the social worker from our adoption agency. When we got there Minal went in to see if it was okay for us to come in. A few minutes later Karuna came out with Minal and greeted us in the van. We went in and the reality of leaving really hit Karuna very hard and he began to cry. We wanted to console him but we knew it was better to give him the space he needed. I just imagined how he was feeling about leaving the only home he ever had and go with 3 strange people that he had only seen pictures and skpyed with a couple of times. Minal and Vindohini, the social worker at the orphanage decided to take Karuna out to get his visa pictures taken and make photo copies of his important documents. When they returned we did the official adoption ceremony. They had a wonderful lunch for us and then it was time to go. Minal and Vindohini came with us to the motel. We shared the cake with everyone hoping this would break the ice. Minal then wanted to get Vindohini out of the room and Karuna grabbed on to her and wouldn't let go and really started to scream. It really broke my heart to see him so upset. We calmed him down again and Minal took charge and Vindohini left then Maurice was able to grab him. Minal also went quickly and Karuna screamed at the top of his lungs for what seemed like an eternity. He finally calmed down after about 10 minutes. It took everything Maurice could do to keep ahold of him. We distracted him with the TV and a couple things we brought from home. He still looked extremely sad and whimpered for a couple hours. We again let him have his space trying not to upset him. Minal came back a few hours later and we all went to have some dinner. He ate very well and then we took him back to the room for a nice warm shower. He seemed to be more relaxed with Maurice by then. He climbed into bed after that and slept very well.
Just wanted to update everyone.
I will post more news tomorrow

Merci d'avoir pris le temps d'écrire ce message ! Pas facile pour ce petit bonhomme....Vous prenez le temps pour que Karuna s'habitue à vous, c'est super ...
ReplyDeleteI know this is probably not the first meeting that you had dreamed about, but it does show that he was well cared for and was loved and that he is capable of attaching and bonding. I'm sending prayers that he begins to adjust and seek out comfort from his new family. With love, each day will get better and better!

That is so heartbreaking -- our little girl was terrified and cried too. And Karuna is so much older than she was, and has a better idea of what leaving means . . . so I'm sure it's much more difficult for him. And for you! But the good news is that he is also old enough to know that he wants a mom and dad and sister, forever. I will be praying for all of you!
ReplyDeleteWith love,

How old is he? I'm so surprised he screamed so much. Wow. Every kid handles it so differently.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you have him in your arms safe, and sound. So thankful.
Post pictures. :) I'm dying to see that little guy with his new family. :)
Congratulations. :) It will get better. :) As you know. :) Prayers.
