We started out Thursday evening from O'Hara. The airline decided to put us 30 rows back in the plane and of course the aisle chair wouldn't go past the first set of seat so that's where I ended up. One very nice gentleman gave up his seat for Jessica and Maurice who ended up one row back and on the other side of the plane. That part of the trip seemed to be never ending. I don't sleep well on planes so the occasional cat nap was it. Jess and Maurice did better. We landed in Abu Dhabi 1 hour before scheduled so we had a little time to relax before our next flight. The airplane food wasn't the greatest so we spotted a place to get a burger and it tasted pretty darn good. Our next flight was from Abu Dhabi to Trivandrum India. Much shorter flight but food wasn't much better. Again all of us were separated on the plane which we hope to have resolved before we head home.
We landed in Trivandrum at about 3:30 am and made our way through customs and immirgration. I was surprised at how busy the airport was at that time of night. We went outside the airport and the hot India air hit us like a brick wall. I've got a hooded sweathirt and another layer underneath and I thought I would melt. We met our driver and we went straight to the hotel to spend the rest of the night. After checking out we boarded our little tour bus and headed to Madurai.
Now here is the interesting part for those of you who have never been to India. Imagine in your mind a road that has NO traffic lights, scooters and bicycles everywhere. Horns honking. It felt like New York City without traffic lights for close to an 8 hour trip. I wanted to kiss the ground at the motel in Madurai when we got here.
On the way to Madurai we stopped for a little lunch at a place called AFC which is the Indian equalent to KFC except a little spicier but still very good. When we were close to Madurai our driver wanted to stop for tea at a place along the road and of course Jessica had to go potty!! Well, lets just say Jess had her first experience with a squatting toilet. She did great :-)
When we got to our motel room, the room was filled with balloons, flowers and a cake that said "Congrats for new blossom in your family". We decided to put it in the refrigerator and save it until we get Karuna and have our own little private celebration. Also waiting for us on the bed were 3 towels that were in the shape of swans(see the picture).
Today we have decided to take some time to look around Madurai before the big day tomorrow. Will post again soon!!
Glad you arrived safely and with no surprises, except for the welcomed balloons and cake! Can"t wait for your next posts when you are all together.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're there safe and sound. Love the descriptions of everything! And who put the cake and balloons in your room? The hotel? That was wonderfully sweet, whoever it was! Can't wait to see photos of you WITH Karuna!
